The Story

The convoy of cars and the stolen trucks raced along the dark road, if it could really be called a road was a matter of opinion.

The very real danger of travelling at this kind of speed on an isolated forest trail like this, was not.

In the mirror, the driver of the rear car could see the approaching black un-marked 4x4s.

No sirens sounded, no flashing lights, just headlights and black.

The frantic chase had only begun minutes ago.

Suddenly appearing from nowhere like mechanical banshees, the 4×4’s had driven off road though the forest to find the escaping gang, the unmarked black jeeps had then joined the road, and began to follow them at speed.

What the hell had they stolen? …

(24 hours earlier)

The gang of theives had come all the way to Russia…

The Job was fairly simple: locate an isolated farm in a remote region of Pashkovo, Russia, take out anyone guarding farm, locate the vault inside and load up the four Ural 6×6 trucks stored at the farm with the contents and get them back to a derelict warehouse on the outskirts of Belogorod without being followed.

Under no circumstances should they attempt to open the crates or anything they find in the trucks.

No witnesses should be left alive, the client had been very specific about that.

Once the escape was made, a meet up at the warehouse where they would meet the contact, who would load the trucks onto a train and the group would escort the trucks to their final destination, Irkutsk.

Here an ex-military helicopter would be waiting to take them and the cargo over the border to Mongolia and the into China, here they would meet the Buyer.

From China the gang would their own way back to their home countries, after being paid six million dollars each by the client.

What of value could possibly be located in a dilapidated farm in the back woods some remote Russian state remained undisclosed, but whatever it was, it must be extremely valuable to warrant them being paid so much to retrieve it.

Everyone in the gang had killed for profit, many had taken lives for less incentive than that.

No one would have refused to go whatever the cargo was.

(Presently)

As the lead car rounded tried taking a corner at speed of over 80 miles an hour, the tyres began to lose traction on the soft earth of the track. As it slid sideways the rest of the convoy followed thinking the navigator in the lead had intentionally made the turn….

Soon all of the cars were crashing through the Russian forest – one car smashed loudly into a fallen tree, its windscreen turning crimson as it abruptly stopped.

Those that remained continued crashing through the foliage for several meters before finally coming to a stop.

The driver of the rear car had managed to avoid colliding with a tree, but as he attempted to reverse he realised the car was going nowhere, its tyres span in the mud…

The sun was beginning to rise above the trees, Behind them in the pre morning gloom of the forest canopy, they could see approaching headlights of their pursuers …

What was in the stolen trucks?
