The Story
Nick Spencer
There wasn’t anything remarkable about the man and “a scientist” pretty much summed him up.
His career to that point was hardly noteworthy, let alone remarkable and nothing he had done had made any real difference in the academic world.
Graduating 18th in his class at a second rate university, and working as a geneticist for small pharmaceutical company
Thirty five years old and living in a small two bedroom apartment in Chicago. No wife, no children and few, if any, real friends. That was until he was approached by the company.
Nick had been flown to a small private island off the coast of Ecuador by their head hunters, he was offered a fantastic salary and shown a state of the art underground laboratory.
The Company offered him the escape he wanted from the mundane existence he toiled at, unfortunately it turned out to be prison of a different sort.
The Company in question is known in the business world as Trading Alliance Limited. (T.A.L)
The Company is a front.
The real money that funded its global presence really came from a black market biological research division know as Sector 3.
Nick has spent the last year underground… at first a willing participant in some of the lesser atrocities committed at Sector 3.
Illegal animal testing and cloning, narcotics manufacturing and even weapons development were some of the projects he worked on.
More recently however when his conscience finally got the better of him, he became a prisoner unable to leave.
Two weeks ago had been offered a promotion, and shown some of the more classified projects the Company were working on.
The truth was much worse than he could have imagined.
Sector 3’s success came from the front companies’ ability to utilise multiple trading channels to smuggle in migrant workers and immigrants from across the globe for use as guinea pigs in genetic engineering and biological testing experiments.
With the ability to bypass all the normal safe guards and regulations in place to prevent human trafficking they lure these innocent victims to Sector 3’s hidden laboratory, here they are able to produce new pharmaceutical drugs and illegal narcotics at an exponential rate, operating outside of the legal restraints of the human rights laws of the world above.
Although is he given anything he could ask for from his captors, he is forced to continue his work or face the prospect of becoming one of the test subjects himself.
Recently a chemical formula had been discovered in the lab, which enabled the synthesis of a new combat drug.
This drug was able to combine with a subject’s DNA to enhance their abilities.
Troops would be able to run for days, fight for weeks without sleep, be physically stronger and survive mortal wounds that would otherwise kill them.
The Testing stage was about to begin when Nick was promoted and shown the project.
4 humans, three male, one female from some third world nation, they were to be the first to try the new drug.
What was done to those people was so abhorrent that nick had decided to quit shortly after, when he had approached his boss he was threatened.
He was told that he had signed a five year contract and received several million dollars, and that should he decide that he wished to break that contract the consequences would be extremely dire.
Later he learnt that others who had tried to leave had “disappeared” never to be seen again.
Fearing for his life and desperate to escape the lab, he had only one option…
He would need to contact the authorities, unfortunately this was near impossible without shutting down the security systems that protected the lab.
The only way to get a signal to the outside world would be to sabotage the reactor that controlled most of the electronics and then try to make a break to the surface, here he could use an improvised transmitter to send out an email to the U.S embassy, giving his location, a confession and request for rescue to help testify against the Company.
He would however then need to try and evade detection on the surface while the American troops arrived… but what choice did he have?
